Hotel / Condo Lobby Maintenance

While many of the principles of stone refinishing can be used in each setting – large or small – each presents itself with challenges.

Maintenance and restoration of condo or hotel lobbies is no different.

Coordination, flexibility, timing and experience are all needed for things to be done as smoothly as possible with little to no disruption in daily activities. We are proud to have worked in some of the most prestigious buildings in the GTA.

• We begin with an assessment of the work area, as some areas will require more care and attention than others.
• We never suggest work when there is no work to be done!
• Oftentimes a large area has many types of stone to create patterns or design features. We are able to use the appropriate refinishing process for each to achieve the desired result/finish.
• Wax buildup can be a stone’s worst nightmare, layers and layers are often applied in the hopes that the floor will look or stay clean. The truth is stone needs to breathe, and wax prevents this process. The result of waxing can be cracks, crumbling of the stone, discolouration, dirt buildup or worse.
• While we assess the floors overall condition these problems are noted, as we are able to repair or even replace any damage caused over the years.
• Once a finish has been decided on, and trouble areas have been noted, we are able to offer a variety of sealing solutions.

The industry standard in sealing is a high-grade impregnating sealer. While this does a fine job, it simply is not good enough for high traffic areas. For commercial settings we use a crystallizing process that chemically hardens the stone and protects the pores. The hardened stone is more resilient to foot traffic and scratches while still protecting against spills and accidents.

Once a building has been refinished we monitor the stone with just a few maintenance sessions each year. This way we can ensure the area is kept pristine and naturally beautiful.
